Becoming a Leader of Leaders
Today I had the privilege of being elected Co-Chair of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce's Organization of Women Leaders (OWL). This diverse group of women are the movers and shakers of the community. From fighting the horrors of Human Trafficking to creating legislation to support equality and access for all girls and women, this group's dedication to social justice, empowerment, and wellness is inspiring. It is an honor to serve not only this organization but the Santa Monica community in the months and years to come.
I am excited to be a part of the planning for the biggest events of the year in January and March. On January 17, the OWLs will be hosting the SM Chamber of Commerce's Biz@Sunset networking event. Open to members and prospective members of the Chamber, we will showcase several of our women leaders and their businesses by providing free speed mentoring on finances, business, marketing, and wellness in addition to networking with the entrepreneurs and business leaders of our community.
And the Annual International Women's Day Breakfast is on March 1 at the stunning Loews's Santa Monica Beach Hotel. I can hardly believe I get to be a part of such a prestigious event that commemorates the accomplishments of women such as Jennifer Garner, Mallika Chopra, Santa Monica Chief of Police Jacqueline Seabrooks, and Christine Devine.
This year's theme is "Nevertheless, she persisted." I cannot think of a stronger and more hopeful message given all the uncertainty and changes in this last year. Not only am I comforted by community of strong women that will come together, but I find solace in the in the message of perseverance. We persist. No matter the odds.
Although I cannot publicly share the honorees for 2018, I feel a little giddy at the idea of being in such illustrious company to promote community, tenacity, and hope.
